pH Balance in Skin

What is pH balance and why is it so important when it comes to skin care?

I don’t know about you but I’ve heard a lot about pH levels and balance but never really understood it properly. If you are like me, read on.  I’ll fill you in on what I’ve learned about it. So, directly affecting the health and quality of our skin is its pH (power of hydrogen – SO pleased to now know what it stands for) levels. pH levels are scored on a scale of 1 – 14. Level 7 is neutral, under 7 is considered acidic and above 7 is alkaline. Our skin should naturally sit between 4 and 6.5, slightly acidic. Everything affects our pH balance from the varieties of food we favor to our water consumption or lack of. (The latter I’m severely guilty of).

Our largest organ – our incredibly fascinating skin,  is protected by a combination of lactic acid, amino acids and free fatty acids and this is what gives our skin the slightly acidic pH to stop it and our body from absorbing bacteria – isn’t that amazing!!  If there is disruption to this precious layer then the damage manifests itself in irritations such as dryness or blemishes or others, so you can see how important maintaining the natural pH balance is to our skin to reduce the risk of this kind of damage.

So how can we do this I hear you ask …. well stay tuned because I will discuss just what we can do environmentally, internally and topically for our skin’s optimum pH balance next time.

You deserve the best.

What a joy it is to live in Brisbane, Australia at this time of year.

The Jacaranda and Poinciana trees are an array of the most beautifully coloured purple and red flowers respectively. There is nothing more beautiful than to walk down a street and see such a show. To walk underneath them is yet another joy.  The flowers fall in a gorgeous ‘rain’ and form a splendid carpet of either bright red or jacaranda purple. This has been known to bring me to tears with it’s magic.
You may have a similar flower or plant that flowers at a certain time of year that you just love too.

Whatever it is, the common denominator is that it is a beautiful plant or botanical from nature.
How reassuring it is for me to know that my skincare uses certified organic herbs from the Swiss Alpine region and beautiful Swiss Alpine water and it is botanically based.

Let’s face it – there is nothing more lovely, or better for you than nature, and to have my skincare inspired by nature and enhanced by science is just the bees knees – I’m SO happy!

Please read your labels and use nothing but the best – you deserve it and so does your health !!

Finding Joy and Contentment

How lovely to be thanked every day for changing someone’s life. I met up with a friend today who is having this happen to her at the moment. Recently a lady joined her business, who had lost her job and was in a bit of a sad place in her life. She is now so grateful, incredibly excited about what her future holds and can’t believe how fortunate she is and is thanking my friend daily for sharing this opportunity with her. Her husband said he hasn’t seen her this happy in ages. She has a goal and she’s unstoppable. How awesome to be in BOTH of their shoes!!

That kind of joy comes from true contentment with your present situation (private and professional), where you see yourself headed, your life goals and your relationships. (being your own boss helps!!)

Every day I hear wonderful positive feedback like this from within my team and from my clients about their happiness with their beautiful skin.

I love having a business where I only hear positive feedback every day – it’s so rewarding AND satisfying.

Beats working in the complaints department at my last job! In this business there are never complaints!

Cut the stress in your life

Can you imagine your life without stress? I’m not talking about the normal things that get us down or burden our life such as health issues or family problems or responsibilities, but I’m talking about the extra stress that is put on us from our jobs, our employer, our career, our deadlines.

Have you ever thought about what your life would be like without that extra burden of busting your butt for anywhere from 8 to 14 hours a day or more for a job you’re not passionate about to make someone else rich. So many women (and men) find themselves doing this, day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year – I DID !! I remember the stress was so great at times, I couldn’t think straight, I wasn’t sleeping, it consumed my every waking moment, my neck ached, my shoulders felt like bricks from the built up tension. A trip to the chiropractor was a weekly event.

For me that is all a distant memory since I started my own business in July. My neck no longer aches, I sleep like a bear in hybernation, I think clearly, my shoulders are limber and I haven’t seen my chiropractor in months! I don’t have a knot constantly in my stomach, I’m not tense and I smile and laugh all of the time.

It sounds like I’m taking some wonder drug, but truly I’m not and I’m not in any way exaggerating. My life is full and it has purpose and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.

Yours could be too – ask me how

Do you truly know what’s in the cosmetics that you use? – Part 2

The Cosmetic Graveyard

Research has shown that the average woman puts 515 chemicals on her body a day.
“You’re joking !!” I hear you say – but it’s true ! They are in her shampoo, conditioner, deoderant, body wash, body lotion, perfume, foundation and cosmetics.

All of these chemicals contribute to the toxic brew that is causing so many health problems, like hormonal dysfunction among other awful things, for many women.

With this in mind, ask yourself, what are we doing to our children?

Studies say that 90% of 14 year old girls use makeup, and girls as young as 7 are wearing lipstick, lip gloss and mascara. Imagine what this is doing to their precious young bodies. We cannot let this continue!

Cosmetic companies use mineral oil (to give the product a smooth texture, because animal by-products are so gluggy and fatty – see my last blog) because it is the cheapest oil on the planet and it has an indefinite shelf life. When you consider mineral oil comes from brake fluid and petrol why would you use products that have these in? These nasty chemicals interfere with the skin’s natural functions and are oh so clogging, let alone revolting!

It’s just not worth it – it’s time to get rid of the cosmetic graveyard that is living in your bathroom cupboard ….. there is a PURE, SAFE and BENEFICIAL option.

Do you truly know what’s in the cosmetics that you use?

If you have a weak stomach you may want to stop now. If you want the truth though, read on.

Welcome to the Farm Yard

Have you heard of animal by-products? Animal by-products come from farm animal carcasses (including all the steroids and hormones pumped into livestock), euthanized pets from vets and animal shelters (including insecticidal flea collars), road kill and the entrails from slaughterhouses.

These disgusting carcasses are sent to rendering plants where they are boiled up, the fat then rises to the top, is skimmed off and sent to a purifying plant. YUK!! It certainly doesn’t sound very pure to me.

Who then would buy this disgusting by-product from a purifying plant and what could they possibly want to use it for??

You guessed it – their biggest customer?? Major skincare, cosmetic and hair care companies use it as thickeners and expanders in their products. Unfortunately many of these by-products still contains hormone altering, and cancer causing chemicals.

97% of skincare, makeup and toiletries on the market today contain animal fats in some form. Sadly many are still tested on animals too!!!

That means every time you wash your hair, have a shower, put on sunscreen or makeup your face, you are actually smearing dead animal carcasses on your body.

Is it any wonder that studies tell us that 60% more woman than men are diagnosed with cancer.

Google it, it will turn your stomach. Hopefully though it will also help you to make a firm decision not to endanger yourself & your family in this way.

It is SO important…. In fact imperative, to our on-going health, that we use products that are animal free.

It’s just not worth it – there is a PURE, SAFE and BENEFICIAL option.
